Banff, Banff Hot Springs, Sulphur Mountain aerial lift to Sulphur Mountain peak and walkway, Lake Louise all of these are within a few minutes of each in the Canadian Rockies in the near Calgary, Alberta, Canada the latter most spectacular. As my traveling companion and I walked from the parking lot of the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise our jaws dropped as the emerald green of Lake Louise framed by Rockies comes into view. Naturally, I was hard pressed to unglue the camera from my eye and take in the vista but when I did wow.
The lake’s coloring is from sediment washed from the glacier as the snow melts forming the puddle and there were people from all around the world clicking, laughing, standing in awe, even canoeing the two mile length. Shortly after arriving so too did the rain and we ducked inside the Chateau for some lunch, a few cold ones, and of 10,000 a dice game I was high and not sure if this due to the beverages, the elevation, or mother nature. Later that evening as we drove back to our condo in Canmore, Alberta I sensed that we’ been to Europe and not our neighbors to the north, German, Asian, Scandinavian, even British tourists were abound. Next time I want to stay longer.
