Colborn gets up walking slowly to the front door”Of course just as I get the seat cushions right who is out on a day like today?” The howling January wind and iced roads outside combined with the toasty warm living room inside lulls Colborn into finally addressing his taxes and now someone has the audacity to interrupt what he hoped would be an afternoon far from the maddening crowd.
Unlatching the deadbolt Colborn opens the door, “Yes can I help you?”
Peering through a fur-lined hood pulled tight to block the wind, “Colborn how are you? It has been a while.”
” I know that voice.” No sooner then the last word passed over his lips, “Alvilda?”
Arms around her chest feet shuffling to stay warm,”May I come in, a bit cold out.”
“Sure, of course,” Colborn holds the door open as she floats inside.
A few years ago Colborn and Alvilda were dating, he had just published his first book of poetry she an up and coming real estate broker. Stars were aligning yet something was missing so on the day his book went public, during a celebratory dinner, he asked her to move in with him. Alvilda unprepared knew not how to answer and said she needed time to think well, that was two years ago now she was standing in the foyer Colborn like deer caught in headlights thought Alvilda was gone forever. Taking a few steps inside Alvilda turns to face Colborn slips off her hood revealing a bobbed head of blonde hair framing sparkling blue eyes.
Pulling Colborn in she slides her hand up the back of his neck through a tangle of curly, sandy blonde hair. Lips smack, tongues probe, delightful.
Coming up for air, “Alvilda what a surprise what hap…” but before he could finish the inquiry she dove in for more jeans, shirts, and underwear go flying they stumble over the arm of the couch onto cushions were they collapse in ecstasy, Colborn’s paperwork falls to the floor, thud.
